Impressions of a cathedral rock

There’s a hush that settles over Cathedral Valley, Utah just before the sun breaks through—when the rock formations feel more like elders than stone. I painted this from a photo taken in Utah, but what moved me most wasn’t the grandeur alone—it was the sense of timeless presence, like these towers had been standing sentinel over the land for ages. Every shadow and crack felt like part of a story too vast to tell in words. I wanted to hold that silence, that weight, in paint.
